Meet Angela Huebner, Ph.D., LMFT

Welcome

I believe the changes you want to make in your life start with being truly understood.

I Get It

You've read the books. You've done the retreats. You've berated yourself in low moments, promising you’ll do tomorrow differently — even just a little.

And yet here you are. Still circling the same patterns. Still searching, waiting, and hoping for things to shift.

I know what you’re going through may feel hopeless, but I promise you it isn’t.

I also know that your struggles don’t stem from lack of discipline. In fact, you've probably tried harder than most people ever will.

What probably has been missing until now is the kind of support that treats your mind, body, and spirit as connected, instead of separate problems to manage one at a time.

My Story

I spent the first half of my career in universities and clinics, learning why people get stuck and how they change.

I taught it to graduate students at Virginia Tech for seventeen years.
I published it.
I built a career on the science of transformation.

But three decades of sitting with real people taught me something the studies never fully captured.

Most of what we call symptoms — anxiety, depression, anger, the ache of disconnection from a partner — aren't the actual problem. They're the signal, and they show up when we lose touch with ourselves, our people, or our sense of purpose.

That understanding informs how I practice.

I still rely on rigorous, proven methods, but I no longer separate the clinical from the intuitive. Because you are so much more than a set of symptoms to manage.

You're a whole person, and you deserve care that treats you like one.

Who I Work With

I work with people who are ready to stop coping and start changing.

My clients range in age from their twenties through their eighties. They might be partnered or single, navigating life as individuals, couples, or families. They come from every sexual orientation, gender identity, religious background, and spiritual tradition — and all are genuinely welcome here.

The people who resonate with my approach have already tried a lot: therapy, self-help books, maybe a retreat or two. Typically, they aren't in crisis. They're simply done outrunning the question underneath it all:

Is this really it?

If you want a therapist who takes the clinical and the spiritual sides of change equally seriously, you're in the right place.

My Approach

I believe that when we're out of alignment, our whole system lets us know, through anxiety, depression, anger, or pain in the body that has no clear medical explanation.

These discomforts, struggles, and personal challenges are clues pointing us to the truth.

Talk therapy alone rarely gets you all the way there. Lasting change asks you to reconnect with what your body and your intuition already know.

I draw on IFS, EMDR, and Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy, along with intuitive coaching, to work with your full picture: history, relationships, and inner wisdom.

My style is collaborative and direct. I'll tell you the truth and meet you where you are, so together we can shift the patterns that no longer serve you— so you can begin to feel at home in your own life.

but it actually takes…

Outside of Work

You’ll usually find me exploring the neighborhood with my fifteen-year-old dog Thunder (we go slow these days) or swimming laps at the local pool. I live in Alexandria with my husband of 25 years. We’re empty-nesters now, but look forward to our daughters’ visits when they need a break from life’s adventures.
